Electric Zoo ‘Going Hard in 2021’ With Cancun Edition

0

The tease started on Wednesday when Electric Zoo posted on social media, “Working on getting all the party animals together for a wild, NEW adventure,” with a graphic showing a palm tree and beach party.

On Thursday, Electric Zoo shared a photo collage of a plane, palm tree and … Mexico’s flag.

“Looking forward to 2021 for more reasons than one… Hint: The EZoo feel, transported,” the caption stated.

Shortly after, the organizers revealed Electric Zoo Adventures: Cancun Edition. That’s right, they’re planning a festival in the area of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula known for beaches, resorts and nightlife, from April 7 to 11, 2021.

‘Going Hard’

“We’re going hard in 2021 with BIG shows and NEW experiences,” Electric Zoo stated in a post with the details.”

Imagine if the music and feel of ezoo married a dream beach vacation, and made a baby. Well, #ezoofam, that baby is here.

Electric Zoo is planning to take over Cancun’s best hotels for five days and four nights, all-inclusive. As with its previous editions, the festival promises world class dance music artists. On top of that, special guests for pool parties and a block party.

Packages start at $699 and spots can be secured with just a $20 deposit.

Electric Zoo also promises it is “100% refundable if the trip is cancelled or rescheduled due to COVID-19. We got you.”

U.S. Festival Canceled

The Cancun edition announcement comes just a few weeks after Electric Zoo announced it stopped all preparations for its annual festival at Randall’s Island Park. Organizers attributed it to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio canceling all large events through September 30.

While we are heartbroken, everyone’s safety is our #1 priority and we understand the Mayor’s decision,” organizers wrote in the post informing fans. “We will return Labor Day Weekend 2021 with the Supernaturals theme and with the biggest line-up in the history of Electric Zoo!

Made Event founded Electric Zoo in 2009 and it has become New York City’s biggest dance music festival, drawing more than 150,000 fans. Cancun is not Electric Zoo’s first adventure abroad—past edition include Mexico City, Brazil and Shanghai.

Going International

As coronavirus infections continue to rise in the U.S., going international may be the more secure route for festival organizers. Many countries and the European Union have closed their borders to Americans as the U.S. far surpasses other nations in Covid-19 cases and deaths.

Dozens of festivals in the U.S. that tried to convene this summer or fall have nixed their plans and only a few remain. Most have rescheduled for next year, but even 2021 may wishful thinking. The way Lollapalooza’s founder sees it, concerts won’t be back in the U.S. until 2022.

Meanwhile, outdoor dance music events are starting to pop off in Europe and other countries. It’s not a good time to be a festival enthusiast in America.
